It was a sad that we could not finally celebrate the “Wines from Spain’s Annual Tasting”, a wine event organized by the Embassy of Spain in London where exhibiting every year a selection of some of the best wines from Spain. Instead that, a tasting panel was celebrated this year with the objective of identifying those wines that stand out as having the most potential for this market.
The panel was conducted by three local wine experts from different areas of UK trade on 17th September 2020: Tim Atkin MW (wine journalist), Noel Young (Noel Young Wines) and Beth Willard (Direct Wines) were tasked with tasting the line-up of 82 wines from across 20 DOP, all of which are new to the UK. All wines were scored individually, with all aspects from style, to pricing and packaging being considered.
The best news is that the 2 first wines, with the highest punctuation are NELEMAN! And there is a total of 5 Neleman wines within the list of the best 20 wines. Having reach scores of 90-93p per wine, including:
91 points - Neleman Viognier & Verdil 2019: “Great character and freshness, unusual style with good acidity for Viognier. Good value”
92 points - Nucli White Macabeo & Sauvignon Blanc 2019: “Fresh, bright, attractive flinty reduction, not overworked. Great value, organic at under £10.00”
90 points - Neleman Tempranillo & Monastrell 2019: “Drink chilled, juicy, bright. Perefect wine to serve "by the glass"”.
